Dhilmar Éléonore’s Annual Orange Shirt Day Fund Campaign Raises over $12,000 to the Eenou-Eeyou Community Foundation

The Eenou-Eeyou Community Foundation is proud to once again receive generous support from Dhilmar Éléonore and its employees through their Orange Shirt Day Fund. Orange Shirt Day, observed annually on September 30, commemorates the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and raises awareness of the lasting impacts of residential schools on individuals, families, and communities.

This year, Dhilmar Éléonore employees contributed an impressive $6,047, and the company matched these donations, bringing the total contribution to $12,094. This continued commitment demonstrates the mine’s dedication to supporting Eeyou and Eenou communities in a meaningful way.

“The Foundation deeply appreciates Dhilmar Éléonore’s contribution and ongoing commitment for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation,” said Dr. Sarah Pash, Chair of the Foundation. “Their generosity and the engagement of their employees show a strong desire on this important day to support our culture, language and proud history as Eeyouch/Eenouch.”

The Orange Shirt Day Fund was developed in 2023 at the request of employees at the Éléonore gold mine located on Wemindji territory in Eeyou Istchee. Funds support the preservation and sharing of culture, language, and history of Eeyou Istchee.

To recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Dhilmar Éléonore employees wore orange shirts from the Cree-owned, Waskaganish-based clothing company, Eeyou Istchee Lifestyle.
