EECF Launches Eeyou Istchee Resilience Fund to Support Violence Prevention and Community Safety Initiatives Across Eeyou Istchee
The Eenou‑Eeyou Community Foundation (EECF) has launched a new fund named the Eeyou Istchee Resilience Fund. This fund will support sustained, community‑driven initiatives focused on violence prevention, safety, and community resilience across Eeyou Istchee. The fund emerges after months of collaborative planning with the Eeyou Eenou Police Force (EEPF) to ensure meaningful, culturally safe support reaches all communities.
“There’s a consistent need for proactive, preventative approaches to safety and wellbeing across our Nation” says Dr. Sarah Pash, Chair of the Foundation. “Through this fund, we’re collectively driving support for community-led initiatives that support violence prevention, safety, and education.”
Garnered funds will support initiatives such as Youth-focused gatherings that promote the shared responsibility of safety of firearms and hunting tools. These Youth sessions – planned by the EEPF, the regional Cree Trappers Association, and the Cree Nation Youth Council – aim to provide space for necessary dialogue, grounded in Cree values and traditional knowledge.
“The Eeyou Istchee Resilience Fund is the result of strong partnerships and a shared commitment,” says Bradley Mianscum, Deputy Director of the Eeyou Eenou Police Force. “Everyone has a role to play in keeping our communities healthy and safe and this initiative helps turn that shared responsibility into action.”
